How far should the transformer be safe?

2025-03-22

First of all, we need to know the classification of transformers. What we often see should be distribution transformers below 10-35 kV, generally 10 kV or 0.4 kV.

According to the insulation form, they can be divided into: oil-immersed transformers, dry-type transformers and gas transformers. The oil-immersed transformer is the one whose internal coil structure cannot be seen from the outside.

This type of transformer is flammable and is mainly arranged outdoors. If you see it on fire, you must not use water to put it out. Professionals should cover the flames with dry yellow sand to extinguish the flames; if the fire is outside and the transformer is not damaged, carbon dioxide, 1211, and dry powder fire extinguishers can be used to put out the fire. Please keep a safe distance and stand 2 meters away from the live equipment.

The dry-type transformer is the one that can see the internal coil structure from the outside. This type of transformer has low noise and is mainly arranged in the distribution room of urban communities. However, many of the lead wires are exposed. Non-professionals should not enter the distribution room. Gas transformers have a high safety factor and high cost. At present, they are basically dependent on imports and are not common.

So, the key question is: How far away from the transformer should people be safe?

In fact, all transformers are designed with safety factors in mind. Normally, you can ensure safety by not touching the transformer or entering the room where the transformer is placed.
